The Green House

New Directions in Sustainable Architecture & Design

The National Building Museum [Washington, DC]

Role: Developed educational content, wrote copy, and produced interactives, videos, and print guides.

One of the first major exhibitions to explore green residential design, the exhibit includes an eco-prefab house built into the first gallery (Michelle Kaufmann’s “Glidehouse”).  As  a core part of the curatorial team, Tangent guided the development of the educational content and produced a variety of media pieces including an energy consumption animation, a video tour narrated by the architect, and “true cost” price tags placed strategically throughout the home to set visitors on the path to understand how their actions and choices at home impact the environment. We also created an interactive in which visitors could manipulate the water and electricity usage of an off-the-grid home—and observe how resources derived from sun and rain are drained and replenished.
